EPA Administrator, Lisa Jackson, Visits Louisiana

Nov 18, 2009

The New Orleans Times Picayune discusses yesterday’s visit by EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson. She was in New Orleans for a national conference. In addition to the conference, she took tours of certain neighborhoods and discussed EPA’s role in Louisiana.

A month ago, NWF and other environmental organizations advised President Obama that a number of federal agencies have a stake in the future of this area. It looks like the EPA is listening.

New Action Alert: Urge President Obama to Take the Right Steps for Coastal Restoration

You can make a difference for wildlife in Coastal Louisiana!

The wetlands of Coastal Louisiana offers habitat to migratory birds, is home to the endangered Louisiana black bear and acts as the source of the most valuable fishery in the Gulf of Mexico. Since the 1930s, these wetlands have disappeared at an alarming rate.

President Obama visited Louisiana last month and, as part of his visit, several of his cabinet members focused on the desperate need to restore wetlands and barrier islands along Louisiana’s Gulf Coast.

President Obama’s leadership offers us a new opportunity to get coastal restoration right.

In recognition of these valuable wetlands, the National Wildlife Federation, Louisiana elected officials and 16 other organizations sent a letter to President Obama advising him of five actions that will promote swift progress on coastal restoration in the next 3 years.
